Blog #6. Embrace the Outdoors

Suppose you are a fellow nature enthusiast such as myself, who loves the outdoors and the freedom it brings with the break you get from the hustles of everyday life. In that case, it's time to dust off your camping gear, pack your bags, and embark on an unforgettable camping expedition. Camping is not only a recreational activity; it can be a way of life. It is a chance to disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with nature and all its glory. Whether you are a seasoned outdoor enthusiast or a beginning camper, there is something truly peaceful about spending the night under the stars, surrounded by trees, chirping birds, and the crackling of a campfire. So, what does it take to plan the perfect, or nearly perfect, camping trip? Let's break it down.

First things first: location, location, location! The beauty of camping is in its variability; you can pitch a tent in a national park, a secluded forest, out in the desert, or even your backyard. If you do your research, you can choose a campground that best suits your preferences and level of adventure. Of course, you can do more than just the bare minimum of a tent; bringing RV's and campers pulled by a vehicle to these different camping spots is widespread. You might think you need a large vehicle to manage such things, but there are smaller type campers known as "pop-ups" capable of being towed by a small sedan. Whichever you prefer, there is a valuable option for everyone.

Next up, gear essentials. While camping gear can vary depending on your destination and activities, every camper should have a few pieces of gear in their arsenal. A sturdy tent or reliable camper, and a sleeping bag are must-haves for a comfortable night's sleep. Essentials such as a flashlight, portable stove/portable grill, cooking utensils, let's remember extra clothing, and, most importantly, plenty of water. And, of course, no camping trip is complete without marshmallows for roasting over the campfire!

Now, let's discuss activities. The outdoors offers endless opportunities for adventure and exploration. Whether you're into hiking, fishing, animal watching, or just simply lounging by the campfire enjoying the silence, there's something for everyone to enjoy. Take the time to disconnect from technology and immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of nature. Bring the family along, let the kids explore and make new memories. Trust me, you won't regret it.

Of course, no camping trip is perfect and without its challenges. From unpredictable weather to those pesky insects, Mother Nature always has a way of keeping us on our toes. But isn't that part of the thrill and experience? Embrace the unexpected and learn to adapt; it's all part of the adventure. When the sun sets, and the stars begin to twinkle overhead, take a moment to appreciate the beauty and wonder of the natural world. Camping doesn't have to just be about escaping the daily grind; it's about reconnecting with our roots and finding peace in the simplicity of nature. So, what are you waiting for? Leave behind the business of daily life for a brief moment, grab your tent, embark on a camping adventure by yourself, or gather your friends and family. The great outdoors are calling; are you ready to answer?

  1. Hi Lago! I also enjoy exploring the outdoors and camping. My family and I went 3 years ago to Yosemite and camped there for a week straight. It was an incredible experience. I would highly recommend it for your next camping trip. Thanks for sharing!

  2. Nice post! I enjoyed the outdoors more so as a kid then now because I have grown accustomed to certain comforts. However, I do miss it! The relaxation the fresh air. I enjoy on a nice cold night just staring in the sky.

  3. Hi Lago! Your blogs are always such a joy to read. I love camping! I haven’t been in years, but this blog made me want to start planning a trip up north. Your description of camping was amazing, and very nostalgic to me. Specifically, your conclusion paragraph was my favorite. I loved the way you wrapped everything up, and your closing question was outstanding! Very well done - as always!

  4. This definitely inspired me to set some time aside for an outdoor excursion. We all get so caught up in our digital worlds, it's easy to forget about the simplicity of nature. I might have to take my telescope out for a spin, away from city lights. Where do you like to camp thats not too far form Phoenix?

    1. I suppose it depends on your definition of far, but, a couple of my favorite spots are up in Williams, AZ. That's about a 2 hour drive or so. Another great spot is off Stoneman Lake, an exit off the i17 going towards Flagstaff. These are perfect areas to look up in the night sky with your telescope!

  5. Unfortunately I haven't done many outdoor activities, but it sounds very interesting to have a change of environment every so often. I will take your recommendations into account on my next adventure! And yes, it is definitely about accepting challenges, but also about creating unique lifetime moments. Really nice post.
